I was inspired to paint a hawk after witnessing a battle between two ravens and a hawk in the field nest to my house.
As I began working on the painting I learned that the hawk symbolizes the warrior and represents a connection to the masculine side of the Great Spirit. In many ancient cultures hawks personify visionary strength and are considered messengers of divine power. The hawk often shows up when it is time to connect to creativity, spirituality and tune into life's calling.

After the untimely death of his beloved wife, Eurydice, Orpheus traveled to the underworld to save her. Armed only with his lyre and his voice, his mournful song enchanted and softened the hearts of Hades and Persephone (he was the only person ever to do so). Hades agreed to allow Eurydice to return with him to earth on one condition: he should walk in front of her and not look back until they both had reached the upper world.
